Passively mode-locked fiber laser

As the bandwidth increase of telecommunication networks, system builders pay more and more attention on the performance of components and modules built for the high speed applications. It becomes the top priority of R&D researchers and component manufacturers to evaluate and characterize properly the high-speed components such as photo detectors, transceivers and photonics crystal fiber.

Calmar's passively mode-locking fiber lasers provide femtosecond pulsewidth and very low timing jitter satisfying the requirements of high-speed component testing and calibration.  Compared with actively mode-locked fiber laser, passively mode-locking has a shorter pulsewidth, much higher peak output power and a simpler operation.

Calmar's passively mode-locking fiber lasers are also an ideal solution for the applications in high-speed optical transmission, high-speed optical sampling, all optical switching, optical CDMA, high-speed optical metrology, OTDR and fiber sensing etc.

Optical data transmission rates have increased from OC-48 (2.5Gb/s) to today's OC-192 (10Gb/s) deployments. A steady increase in bit rate in conjunction with WDM enables service providers to extract ever more bandwidth from their existing optical fiber base.

Optical telecom equipment manufacturers are currently starting to explore the potential of 40Gb/s data transmission - and companies like Calmar Optcom are providing pulsed optical sources to help meet this challenge.

Calmar leverages years of design and manufacturing experience in high speed fiber laser sources to produce telecom sources to meet today's 40Gb/s requirements as well as tomorrow's 80Gb/s and 160Gb/s needs. Moreover, Calamr's laser architecture can also be adapted for use in l-band further addressing the ever increasing bandwidth demands.

Calmar's unique mode-locked fiber laser solution generates high extinction ratio RZ pulses which are inherently suited for 40Gb/s transmission. The output pulse train has: high output power, continuous tunability over the entire c-band, chirp-free pulses, high amplitude and timing jitter stability.

Calmar's 40Gb/s RZ source enables telecom carriers to send data at 40Gb/s transmission speeds and to achieve even higher spectral efficiencies.
